DIY Vitamin C Serum Face Mask Recipe for Increased Collagen Production
Not many people are aware of this, but vitamin C is actually an essential antioxidant that is also known as ‘ascorbic acid’. One of the reasons why it’s so important to get enough vitamin C is because it has a direct influence on whether or not your body is able to produce adequate amounts of collagen naturally. While there are of course the obvious ways to get more vitamin C (dietary, supplements, etc.), you can also follow this recipe for making a DIY vitamin C face mask that helps to increase natural collagen production. You’ll need to combine vitamin C in powder format with a couple of other beneficial ingredients in order to make the mask, and then leave it on overnight while you sleep in order to maximize the benefits it provides.

Luxurious DIY Face Mask That Won’t Break the Bank
Vitamin C is an incredible antioxidant and is great for overall health. It can brighten skin, heal damage, stimulate collagen production, boost circulation, and so much more. Best of all, it’s recommended for all skin types and readily available.
Rose water has been used for hundreds of years for its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. If you find yourself out in the sun a lot, rose water has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects on the skin after UV exposure. (1) It has also been shown to reduce redness and calm down acne breakouts, which is why it’s one of the key ingredients in this serum.
Aloe vera on the other hand, has been shown to help improve skin moisture levels and skin integrity. It is known for its antibacterial, antiseptic, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties.
Lastly, you have a bit of frankincense in this serum, which at one drop isn’t much at all, but did you know frankincense has been shown to have anti-melanoma effects? It certainly can’t hurt, and it may even improve skin texture as well.
Now that you’re well-acquainted with the ingredients, it’s on to the recipe!
Take your rose water and aloe vera and mix both of those together. Add the vitamin c powder and whisk everything together. Finally, add the drop of frankincense and mix well. Carefully transfer the serum to a dark-colored bottle to prevent the vitamin C from oxidizing from light and heat.
Can I Make My Own Rose Water?
You sure can! Rose water is popular in the beauty industry, but it can get pretty pricey if you spray it on everything like I do.
When making your own rose water at home, always make sure to purchase roses that are pesticide-free and chemical-free. You could also purchase dried rose petals. The easiest way to make rose water is through simmering it in distilled water. Simply add ½ to 1 cup of fresh rose petals or ¼ cup of dried rose petals for every 1 ½ cup of distilled water. Let simmer for about 20 to 30 minutes and then strain the liquid. I like to store mine in a glass jar and then just transfer small amounts into a spray bottle as needed.
Can I Just Crush Vitamin C Tablets and Use That Instead of the Powder?
I realize that not everyone has vitamin C powder lying around, but I don’t recommend crushing up vitamin C tablets you may have at home and using that instead. Vitamin C is an unstable molecule that is affected by light, heat and air, so it’s extremely important to store it properly in a cool, dry place. If the vitamin c oxidizes, there are no more benefits to the skin.
Powdered vitamin C is better and more stable, which is why it’s becoming a popular ingredient for DIY skin care made at home.
Should I Apply Vitamin C Serum During the Day or At Night?
Vitamin C serum is said to be safe to apply up to twice a day in conjunction with your regular skin care routine. Serums are typically fast-absorbing, making them ideal for applying underneath your other skin care products like moisturizer and under your make-up. Some dermatologists recommend applying vitamin C during the day to help protect your skin from free radicals throughout the day. It is not, however, considered adequate sun protection. You still need sunscreen for that.
Personally, I recommend applying at night only. If you have sensitive skin, definitely avoid using vitamin C during the day altogether and just use it at night instead. At night, your skin undergoes repair and recovery, which is why your vitamin C serum can definitely come in handy at night. Apply it after you’ve thoroughly cleansed and exfoliated.
