The Best Homemade Apple Pie In a Jar

Ingredients

six 1-cup mason jars

For the filling:

2 pounds apples, peeled, cored and sliced into 1/6 inch thick slices

¼ cup brown sugar

2 tbsp granulated sugar

1 tsp ground cinnamon

¼ tsp ground nutmeg

1/8 teaspoon ground ginger

1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

1 ½ tbsp cornstarch

pinch of salt

For the crust:

1 ¼ all-purpose flour
2 tsp granulated sugar
pinch of salt

½ cup cold butter, cut into cubes

¼ cup iced water

Instructions

  1. To make the filling, in a small bowl combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ground ginger, cloves, cornstarch and salt.
  2. Add the apple slices to a large bowl.
  3. Sprinkle with sugar mixture and toss to coat.
  4. Set aside for 1-4 hours.
  5. To make the crust, place the flour, sugar and salt to a food processor and pulse to combine.
  6. Add the butter and pulse 8 to 12 times, until the butter is the size of peas.
  7. With the motor running, pour iced water and pulse until the dough begins to form a ball.
  8. Place the dough on a large piece of plastic wrap.
  9. Shape it into a disk.
  10. Wrap it in plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for one hour.
  11. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  12. Roll out the dough onto a lightly floured surface, and cut out 6 circles using the  jar.
  13. Place one circle of the dough in the bottom of jar.
  14. Pierce the dough with a fork.
  15. Divide the filling evenly between the jars.
  16. Top the pies with remaining dough as you wish.
  17. Pierce the dough with a fork.
  18. Place the jars on a baking sheet lined with foil.
  19. Bake in preheated oven for 45-55 minutes or until golden.
  20. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely.
  21. Seal the jars.
  22. Store in the refrigerator.
