How to Make Homemade Eggnog

For topping: 


  1. Add the egg yolks and sugar to a bowl and whisk until pale and creamy. 
  2. Add the heavy cream, milk, nutmeg and salt to a saucepan. 
  3. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  4. Remove from the heat. 
  5. Gradually pour it into the egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly.
  6. Pour the mixture back into the saucepan. 
  7. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly for a few minutes until the mixture is just slightly thickened. 
  8. Remove from the heat. 
  9. Stir in the vanilla and alcohol (if using). 
  10. Refrigerate until chilled. 
  11. Just before serving, add the mixture to a blender and blend for a few seconds. 
  12. Pour in glasses. 
  13. Top with whipped cream.
  14. Sprinkle with cinnamon and serve.
