‘Tis the season indeed! Whenever the holidays roll around, my house basically turns into a non stop baking assembly line. For this year, my family and I have been making a ton of holiday themed “in a jar” baking recipes. Today I’m going to be sharing my newest favorite: Cranberry Christmas Cookies!

Cranberry Christmas Cookies

You can layer most of the ingredients you’ll be needing on top of one another in a quart sized jar. You can even print out the recipe on card stock to cut out and attach to your jar if you would like. All of the ingredients layered in the jar look so cool. It’s a perfect holiday decorative piece that you can put on your mantle until you’re ready to bake the cookies.

Delicious and Nutritious Holiday Baking

Something else that I really think you guys will love about this holiday recipe is the fact that these are actually some pretty healthy cookies. They’re made with quite a few ingredients that are in all honesty some smart choices.

Of course I’m referring to ingredients like rolled oats, dried cranberries, and chopped walnuts.

Rolled oats are excellent sources of disease fighting antioxidants and dietary fiber, while the cranberries provide you with even more antioxidants. Meanwhile, the chopped walnuts offer up an abundance of heart healthy monounsaturated fatty acids, along with modest amounts of protein and fiber as well.

Homemade Cookies Are Always the Best Cookies

In order to give your jar of cookie mix that super cool layered appearance, simply follow the directions listed below for the order in which to add the ingredients.

Whenever you’re ready to bake the cookies, the only other ingredients you’ll be needing (other than the ones in the jar) are two teaspoons of pure vanilla extract, four ounces of softened butter, and a single large egg. Mix them all together and then combine them with your dry mixture until everything is well blended. Last but not least, throw them in the oven for 10-12 minutes at 350°F.

A Great Holiday Decoration or Gift Idea

I briefly mentioned earlier about printing off this recipe on card stock and attaching the tag to your jar. I love doing that with my kids and then letting them decorate the jars. That’s one great idea that you can do with this recipe.

These holiday themed jars also make for a great gift idea, especially for the loved ones in your life who love to bake as much as you do! Just make sure that you attach the recipe tag to the jar as you would when decorating the jar normally so they’ll know what to do with it once they unwrap your gift!
