  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour 
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • pinch of salt 
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1520 unwrapped hard candies


  1. To crush the hard candies, place each color in plastic bags, and crush them with a rolling pin.
  2. Set aside. 
  3. In a medium bowl combine the flour, pinch of salt and baking powder. 
  4. In a large bowl beat together the butter and sugar. 
  5. Add in the vanilla extract and egg and beat until smooth. 
  6. Add the flour mixture and mix until just combined. 
  7. Pat the dough into 1-inch thick circle and wrap in plastic wrap. 
  8. Refrigerate for minimum 2 hours. 
  9. Preheat oven to 350ºF. 
  10. Roll the dough on a lightly floured surface to ¼-inch thickness. 
  11. Use large cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes, then use small cookie cutters to cut out the center shape. 
  12. Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment papers. 
  13. Fill the cut-out centers about ¾ full with crushed candies. 
  14. If you want to hang your cookies, poke the hole using a straw or wooden skewer. 
  15. Bake in preheated oven for 12-13 minutes. 
  16. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely.
