Have you ever tried one of those orange flavored chocolate balls? When I was growing up, chocolate orange balls were an incredibly popular gift to give over the holidays or any special occasion really. Now that I’m older and have to be more mindful of my diet, these chocolate energy balls are the next best thing.

Make-ahead mix for the best chocolate energy balls.

Sure, it’s not exactly the same thing as those old fashioned orange flavored milk chocolate balls, but this recipe does make a far healthier holiday snacking option that offers the same great taste, all thanks to the use of cacao powder and orange zest. Better yet, the energy ball mix also makes for an awesome gift idea once you have the jar decorated.
